During my visit to Hong Kong at the end of 2008, I was lucky enough to meet the editor of IdN who then decided to include me in their May 2009 issue.

Breaking down barriers with walls

Spanish artist Cristina Guitian has a thing about walls – she can’t stop painting on them. And she is not just another fly-by-night graffiti dauber, either – her murals and illustrated installations have been featured at such prestigious events as the London Festival of Architecture, Nike’s SHOWstudio and London Design Week.

Born in Madrid, Spain, Guitian moved to London after finishing her art studies in her native city and in the last four years, her fine strokes and imaginative technique have appeared in both advertising and editorial work for a roster of international brands. However, she would like to spend more time on personal projects and participating in national and international exhibitions and art festivals. Last year, she was kept busy creating murals in London and Amsterdam, and exhibiting at ‘Spread the Lead’ at New York’s Gallery Hanahou. After that, she went for a long trip taking in Japan, Hong Kong, Sydney and Melbourne. While in Tokyo, the Design Festa Gallery invited her to paint a mural outside its premises in Harajuku.
